Play Date Cafe Challenge 96

Hiya!

I'm here this morning to share the fruits of my crafty labors last night. I feel like I've been really out of my routine for the whole month of August, and am finally getting back to things being normal. I was glad to have the chance to sit down and create.

I made this little pretty for this week's Play Date Cafe Challenge. This is our color story for this week:

Doesn't Jaclyn do an amazing job putting these together? I just love to look at all those pretty photos together.

Perhaps I've mentioned how much I have been loving these Wplus9 stamps? I can't wait until the new release countdown begins.. I used the Flora & Fauna I set for this card.

I started by stamping the dogwood branch in Coffee Archival Ink and then cut it out. I used chalk pastels to color the flowers... I love the soft look this gives, and it was perfect for this color challenge with the soft pastel colors.

The patterned paper I adhered to my card base is from Bo Bunny's et cetera Collection. It is a little difficult to see, but I also die cut a piece of the same patterned paper with the Scalloped Oval Die and then punched a small hole in each of the scallops. I adhered my flowers over top of this with dimensional adhesive.

So soft and pretty! I so enjoyed playing along with this challenge. Glad to see you here today, I hope your day is fantastic!

Birthday Wishes

I love celebrating birthdays, don't you?

Well, today it is mine! And I thought it would be fun to celebrate by sharing a present with you! I have a brand new, shiny, all-ready-to-be-inked-and-loved copy of my favorite Say It Loud stamp set from Waltzingmouse Stamps just waiting for you!

Perfect, no? All you need to do is leave me a comment and tell me what your favorite kind of cake is. And if you don't like cake (really? you don't like cake?) tell me what you *do* like. Okie dokie? Me, I loooove this cake from the Oakmont Bakery in Pittsburgh that is almond cake with raspberry preserves filling and then buttercream icing on top. Ooh yummy! I can't wait to hear what you have to say - I will choose a winner on Monday, August 29th.

The card above is for my Dad, we share a birthday which is pretty cool. I was inspired by the Rocket Age paper collection from October Afternoon and went with a space theme. Does it look like orbiting planets to you? Just a bit of fun.

So glad you stopped in today and I can't wait to hear about your cake favorites! Big birthday hugs!

New Addition

Good morning! This week's Design Team challenge at Serendipity Stamps was to create a project with stripes and dots. We could use any images that we wanted as long as our cards had stripes and dots on them. Pretty easy! I chose to use the cute Baby Blocks stamp and pair it with gorgeous paper from Authentique.

I paper pieced the blocks with the same paper I used for the strips on the side. I love the pretty combination of pink and gray, and you can see all my fun stripes and dots! Isn't mixing patterns so much fun?

Thanks for stopping by today. Please be sure to visit the other Design Team members playing along today to see their take on this challenge!

See you tomorrow!

Happy Birthday - WMSC61

Hi there. How have you been? I've been taking a little break.. not necessarily voluntary, but sometimes things come up that you have to deal with. We're talking replacing tiles in the bathroom (not voluntarily), replacing cell phones (not voluntarily), and working way too much (also not voluntarily)!

I squeezed in a little cardmaking yesterday, making my sample for this week's Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge. Late is better than never, I say.

This week, sweet Sarah created our sketch. She also created a sketch for a scrapbook page layout! Sarah makes some pretty amazing scrapbook layouts and I can only wish to make something so awesome. So I made a card based on the card sketch:

And here is the card I made, keeping it simple for my brother-in-law's birthday (and since I made it 20 minutes before the guests started to arrive). It was just the kick start I needed.

I used papers from Cosmo Cricket's Get Happy Collection. These are perfect papers for teenage boys. Add a few punches, some baker's twine and a sentiment from Free Spirit Sentiments, and I was home free. Thanks for stopping by today!

August Friends of WMS Waltz

Good morning, Waltzers! Welcome to the August Friends of WMS Blog Waltz. Today we're waltzing with a tea or coffee theme.

Here are the details: if you want to waltz along with us and you haven't yet linked up your project, head to the link list thread in the WMS Forum to link up your creation and view the other participants. There is also a thread for chatting about what you've seen. This month a random waltz participant will be chosen to receive a prize.

This month we are also saying farewell to Bonnie and Carly, who have stepped down from the WMS Design Team. I will miss both of these ladies more than I can tell you! Each brought something very special to our little group (more like a family!) and their absence is obvious! The DT thought it would be a perfect opportunity to waltz in their honor and let them know how much they mean to us!

So Bonnie and Carly, I just want you to know that I will always consider you both very special friends! And there is always time for friends!

This month I'm sharing a little gifty project - a set of tea towels with cute little tea cup appliques. I started with some flour sack towels I purchased (these are Martha Stewart from KMart). Then I stamped the large teacup image from Afternoon Tea Sentiments onto different patterns of coordinating fabric. I adhered the fabric to a fusible web and then cut my teacups out. A few minutes with the iron and voila! You could stitch around them if you wanted, but I chose not to.

Don't the patterned tea cups look so cute all lined up beside each other?! I tied them together with a cute little tag and that was it! These were really easy, and I think they turned out really cute! Just think of all the possibilities!

Glad you could stop in today, have fun waltzing! Please, if you could, stop by Carly and Bonnie's blogs and wish them good luck! We will miss them!

Best Wishes

Good morning! Happy weekend!

I'm here today to bring you this week's Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge. One last fabulous sketch from Kelly Schirmer.

I have been invited to a bridal shower this weekend, so I wanted to create a card for the bride. I used You're Lovely and some other sets to create a collage-y sort of card. I envy those of you who can pull this style off! It never quite turns out like I see it in my head... :)

I combined PTI's Fine Linen cardstock with SU!'s Wisteria Wonder, one of the new In Colors. I'm a sucker for new colors, and I really like this dusty purple color.

I cut my fancy topper with a Labels 14 Nestability. This piece is actually connected to the base of the card - I trimmed the rest off and adhered it right to the front. I customized my ribbon by coloring it with a Copic marker.

Thanks for stopping by today - we hope you'll play along with us this week - head to the Waltzingmouse Stamps Sketch Challenge Blog to link up your creation. In addition to the Top Mice awards, a free stamp set is awarded each week to a random player!

Enjoy your Saturday!

Big Top Birthday

Hi! How are you today? I'm having the kind of day where it takes me forever to do anything. I think I'm just distracted... I need to focus!

I had some fun playing with new stamps last night. Just a chance to sit down and create for the pure enjoyment of it :)

I used my shiny new Le Cirque stamp set from WPlus9. I never thought I would gravitate to a circus set, but yes my dears, I did and I *love* it. I think the silhouettes are so classy instead of campy, and there's just something about the tight rope walker. For today's card, I used the elephant image.

And who could go wrong with a coordinating die? I die cut 4 elephants from cream cardstock and stamped each of them in gray. Then I stamped them in 4 different colors on scrap cardstock so I could cut out the ball and blanket. I picked the colors based on my patterned paper - I knew I wanted to use this October Afternoon paper all along.

I added some strips of plain cardstock to the design to keep it from getting a little too busy and to give me something to help 'ground' my elephants. I stamped the ticket image from the Le Cirque set onto the pink strip.

I die cut and stamped the banner image, slightly curving the Happy and Birthday sentiments to fit inside. I added a bit of glitter with a glue pen to give it some oomph.

Love it - what fun! I hope you guys have a great day.. thanks for stopping in and I hope you are more productive than I have been!

In the Water

Good morning! This week's Design Team challenge at Serendipity Stamps was to create a project of something on or in the water. I bet it comes as no surprise that I chose to use the Starfish and Seahorse images.

I kept my overall design simple, wanting to let the detailed images take center stage.

I embossed the starfish in white onto melon cardstock. I wanted my cards to have a beachy feel to them. I also embossed the sentiment.

After I had my card all assembled, I went in with a Copic marker and added some dots around the starfish.

Here is the one using the seahorse. I loved how the sentiment fit perfectly in the curve of the seahorse's tail.

I couldn't find a photo of a seahorse in our stash of underwater photos (we've only ever seen pygmy seahorses, which are very difficult to photograph) but I will share a starfish photo we took when we were in Indonesia in January:

I can't tell you how much I want to go diving again. The water is calling my name!

Thanks for stopping by today. Please be sure to visit the other Design Team members to see their take on this challenge!

Have a great day, friends!

Thankful for You

Good morning, my dears!

How was your weekend? Yesterday, I was so lucky to have the chance to hang out with some of my friends from college. One of our group welcomed a sweet little baby girl into the world a few weeks ago, and we met up to visit her. A few of my girls are close by, but a few aren't local anymore, so when we can get together I try and jump on it. Nothing like time with my besties. In October, all of us will be getting together for our 10 year reunion, and I cannot wait.

Anyway, I had the chance to play with some new stamps from Wplus9 (I feel an obsession coming on..) and whipped up something for my girls. Just a little note to say how much their friendship means to me.

I used the Hope Seed Co. stamp set, a super fun build-your-own seed packet set. It was those beautiful line-drawn flowers that pushed me over the edge.

I built my seed packet image, making mine appropriate for a friend card. Instead of coloring my flowers, I decided to paper piece them.

I used paper from Echo Park's For the Record Collection. The red plaid paper tape is a new addition to my stash from Martha Stewart (Vintage Girl Collection). Fun stuff!

I used the same materials for both cards, just switching some things up. I was tempted to whip out one for each of the different flowers in the set!

Don't they look so cute together? (I don't know about you, but I'm smitten).

I'm so glad you stopped by today. I hope your week is off to a great start!

Luck this Halloween

Hiya friends! So how did you enjoy the past few days of WMS goodness? Aren't my fellow DT members full of inspiration?

I'm here today to bring you this week's Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge. Kelly Schirmer has brought us another fun sketch.

And here's what I created, a little peek-a-boo card using Cicely at Halloween.

The belly band slips off and the card opens to reveal Cicely in all her cuteness!

I thought I would try coloring Cicely this time. I think she's pretty darn cute! I need to practice using dark colors, but I've got lots of time before Halloween.

Thanks for stopping by today - we hope you'll play along with us this week - head to the Waltzingmouse Stamps Sketch Challenge Blog to link up your creation. In addition to the Top Mice awards, a free stamp set is awarded each week to a random player!

Enjoy your Saturday!

WMS August SOAP - Day 4

Hi there! Today is Day 4 of the Waltzingmouse Stamps Stamp of Approval Parade. Today is our rewind day, where we pull out an old set to use - this month it is Afternoon Tea.

This is perfect timing for me, as my Nana's birthday is this weekend. She's British through and through, and she loves her tea!

Can you tell that I have watched Alice in Wonderland recently? :)

I experimented with a couple different ways of stacking the tea cups, but ultimately what I ended up doing was stamping them first onto the cream cardstock to get my placement and then onto patterned paper. I cut them from the patterned paper and then, using a craft knife, cut a slit in the lip of the cup so the one above it could slide inside - it gave the most realistic stacked look.

I decided to not even bother trying to cut the handles out, so I just colored them in with Copics to coordinate with the patterned paper. Isn't this cute? I want to make a tall card with a rainbow of about 15 of these babies. It would just make me happy.

I also made some coordinating coasters as a gift for Nana.

I followed this tutorial for making coasters with patterned paper. I thought I would try using more than one layer of paper, and it worked beautifully. I stamped the large teacups from Afternoon Tea Sentiments (a wonderful companion to Afternoon Tea) onto patterned paper and cut them out.

Let me give you a hint for cutting out the handles. I snip the bottom of the handle off (where it meets the cup) so I can get my scissors up inside the handle. After I have that all cut out, I take a tiny piece of tape and (on the back) attach the handle back to the cup. It is way cleaner than trying to use a craft knife, and I bet you'd never know I snipped that piece off if I hadn't told you!

After the tea cups were adhered to the base paper, I used Mod Podge to glue the paper to the tile. And then I podged the heck out of it. Pretty stinkin' cute if you ask me - a perfect place to put a hot cup of tea!

Gals, thank you all so much for your sweet comments over the past 3 days of the SOAP. I love the opportunity to share my ideas and passion for these lovely stamps with you! Your comments mean more to me than you know!

I hope that you have enjoyed and have been inspired by the creations we've shared over the past few days of our Stamp of Approval Parade. I know I have enjoyed the opportunity to highlight last month's sets again as well as Afternoon Tea. Now its your turn, as we invite you to participate in a CASE (Copy and Share Everything) competition.

Here are the details: choose a card or project from any of those posted over the past few days by the WMS Design Team, CASE that project using Waltzingmouse Stamps images, and link it using the Inlinkz on the WMS Blog. At the end of the competition, one project will be randomly selected to be highlighted with a Parade of its own on several of the Design Team blogs.

We hope you will enjoy this competition and that it will inspire you be creative. You have one week to complete and link your project as the competition will close at 8:00 AM Claire’s time on August 11th (that corresponds to 3 AM Eastern, 2 AM Central and Midnight, Pacific time). The winner will be announced on the WMS Blog on August 11th. I can't wait to see what you do!!

Here are the other ladies for today!

Have a super day!

WMS August SOAP - Day 3

Welcome to Day 3 of the Waltzingmouse Stamps SOAP (Stamp of Approval Parade), our event for non-release months. We're revisiting the eight sets released in July, now that you should all have them in your inky hands!

Its an assortment of sets from me again today... I was just having so much fun creating!

My first card focuses on the beautiful frame images from Ovals - Classic Frames and also from Cameo Creations.

I stamped the frames with white pigment ink onto kraft cardstock. Then I die-cut some ovals from patterned paper to fit inside the frames.

The sentiment is one of the little phrases from Say It Loud. A little button and some inked edges finish it off.

Next up is a sweet little vintage western number. Did you see all the western stuff released at CHA? I caught peeks at a few different patterned papers with a western theme - you're ahead of the curve if Back in the Saddle and Way Out West are in your stash!

I layered a cameo from Cameo to Go onto the filigree oval from the same set. The oval was stamped with the woodgrain background from Way Out West. The sentiment is from Back in the Saddle, I curved it to frame the ovals and then trimmed it out. The background is one of the doily images from Dainty Doilies 2.

I inked all the edges with Distress Ink and added some gold pearls to the sentiment. I really love how this one came together. Isn't it great that these sets compliment each other so well?

And finally, a chance to pull out Cicely at Halloween.

Here's an option if you don't care for coloring or paper piecing - just plain old stamping! I kept Cicely plain and simple, stamped just in black with some Distress Inked edges but let the patterned paper add some interest to my card. I created a patchwork of 1-inch squares, punched from six different patterns. I adhered these to a piece of cardstock and then die-cut it with a Labels Eight die. Added a bit of baker's twine, a button, and a tag and Cicely was ready for trick or treating! Have I mentioned how much fun these little girls are? ;)

Well that's all I have to share today, here is your list of the rest of the ladies joining us today:

Have a super day!

WMS August SOAP - Day 1

Hi there! Today is the first day of our August Stamp of Approval Parade (SOAP) - our festivities for non-release months at Waltzingmouse Stamps.

We will spend the next three days recapping the sets released in July and then we'll spend the last day sharing inspiration for an older set.

Today is Cameo day for me. I have mixed and matched images from Cameo Creations and Cameo To Go.

First up is a little something I put together with this week's Play Date Cafe Color Challenge in mind.

I used the cameos to create my background paper and then added some embellishments in antique gold. Musical Backgrounds snuck in there too - a perfect compliment to the cameos!

And now for something a little ... spooky.

I couldn't pass up the opportunity to share something for Halloween, since it is my favorite time of the year. I kept trying to think of how I could give this lovely lady an eye to follow you (you know the classic Halloween movie portrait on the wall with the moving eyes) or how I could zombie-fy her. I kept it safe, though, and just added some spiderwebs. Love using spiderwebs on Halloween cards.

The cameo was backed with some crepe paper, I snipped the edges with pinking shears for extra spookiness. The sentiment is a new one, from the Cicely at Halloween set being released today. Haven't Claire's samples been incredible? She's teasing us with all the new Spellbinders dies too :)

And since I was in the Halloween groove and couldn't resist playing with new stamps, I've also created something for the new release. I'm not much of a colorer.. I enjoy it but don't think I'm very good at it, but I can fussy cut like nobody's business! So instead of coloring my little cutie, I paper pieced her. This is Gracie at Halloween:

I did color some parts of her.. her face and hands and her broom, but the rest of her - even kitty! - was paper pieced. Oh these vintage girls, I love them. LOVE them. They are available for purchase today in the WMS store. Hurry and snatch them up!

Really? Who wouldn't want a polka dotted witch's hat? The patterned paper is The Spider's Web from My Mind's Eye. Its a favorite of mine... I love the black and mustard yellow together.

I think I've kept you long enough... I'm so glad you could stop by today, here is a list of the other ladies sharing projects today!

Have a great day - see you tomorrow!
