WMS September Blog Party

Happy Monday, friends. Today is the Waltzingmouse Stamps September Blog Party. The theme for this month's party is fall, which happens to be my favorite season. Lynn prompted us to consider creations that include not only the colors and imagery but also the textures of fall.

Here is the card that I created, also tapping into some inspiration from this week's Sketch Challenge.

I started by die cutting the leaves (this is a Sizzix die, Leaves #2) then I stamped each of them with the houndstooth pattern from Heirloom Patterns. Houndstooth is definitely a fall-related pattern for me. I used a seasonal inspired color palette, rich yellows and browns.

As I was deciding how I wanted to lay out my leaves on my card, I saw the cardstock sitting there that I had cut the dies from and thought it was the perfect design. I took the cardstock and trimmed it to fit a card front, then stitched along the top and bottom edges. I inked the edges and gave it a quick misting before adhering it my card front.

I adhered the leaves using dimensional foam tape, replacing them back in the spots they were die cut from. Then I added a sentiment from Peace and Plenty, a set full of fantastic fall motifs.

If you'd like to join us for this month's Blog Party, create a fall-themed project and head over to the Waltzingmouse Blog and link it up. You have until 1:30 pm EST tomorrow before the links are closed.

Have a great day!

WMS Sketch Challenge #108 and a Recipe

This week's Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge is based on a fun card design from Belinda Chang Langner.

I had been thinking about how I could interpret the sketch, especially what I wanted to put on the little tag. I thought it would be fun to do a little masked stamping, and decided that Asian Gardens would be a good set to use for this.

I started by die cutting the tag shape from my favorite Oatmeal cardstock. Then I die cut a circle from computer printer paper, and using washi tape, I temporarily adhered the circle opening over the tag. Using the solid rectangle from My Island, I stamped over the circle to create my solid background. Then I went in with the long border stamp from Asian Gardens, stamped it with Versamark (then removed the mask), and heat embossed it in gold.

I stamped and fussy cut the flower and bird and layered them over my embossed circle. I paired the tag with some patterned paper from Basic Grey's PB&J collection. I kept looking at this card trying to figure out why it just didn't look right to me. I measured the tag twice to make sure I had adhered it straight.. it turns out that the pattern isn't straight on the paper. Does that drive anyone else crazy? ;)

Before I go, I thought I would share a yummy recipe with you. I cook just about every night, so I'm always on the lookout for new recipes to add to my rotation. I found this one for BBQ Chicken Cornbread Pie on Tasty Kitchen and gave it a try. It is fantastic! I've made it three times now and it is so good - makes great leftovers too.

Deeelicious! It is a great mix of flavors and is pretty quick to put together. You can take some shortcuts, too, like cooking the chicken ahead of time or using store-bought barbecue sauce if you need to speed it up. Give it a try!

That's it for me, I'll be back tomorrow with my first post as a Play Date Cafe Design Team Member! Woo!

Bon Anniversaire

Good morning!

How are you? Thank you all for your kind words about the Play Date Cafe Design Team. I am really excited to get started - next Thursday kicks it off!

As you can see, I've been doing a little blog housekeeping. I was feeling like I wanted things to be more clean and streamlined. I would love to hear your thoughts.. I'll be tweaking things here and there for a few more days, I'm sure.

Today I am popping in (on my way out the door...) to share a birthday card with you.

I based my card on this week's Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge.

We are in a round of sketches inspired by Design Team creations, and this one is from the lovely Tosha Leyendekker.

I used the French Country set for this card, starting by stamping the base with the medallion background pattern. Then I stamped the detailed border image onto my diagonal cut piece of cardstock and colored it with Copics. The fancy label and a length of silk ribbon finish it off. I like the curved sentiment on this - I just curved it myself on my acrylic block before stamping and then cut around it. Isn't it nice to have the flexibility to do that with clear stamps?

This card went to my Mom for her birthday last weekend. When I get a chance to pull the pictures from Bill's site, I'll share photos of our celebration at The Wilds.

I hope you'll join us and play along with the Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge this week! All the details you need can be found here.

Be sure to stop back tomorrow, the WMS Design Team is participating in a special blog waltz. Hope to see you then!

It's a Good Day

Happy Sunday, my friends. I wanted to pop in here today to share a card made with this week's Waltzingmouse card sketch.

This week's sketch was inspired by the always-fabulous Sandie Dunne.

Here is what I made, turning this sketch into a square card.

Playing with my Pinwheels set the other day encouraged me to set some time aside to use it more. I started this card by choosing the colors I wanted to work with. I knew that I wanted to use patterned paper for the rectangle on the left of the sketch, so I picked my colors from that. Then I used the small outline and solid pinwheel to create a background design. Just fun to make.

We would love to have you play along with this week's challenge. Visit the Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge Blog to load up your project and see all the fabulous inspiration from the Mischief Makers.

I also wanted to remind you that the WMS Blog Party for July will be on Tuesday, July 17th. This month's theme is the great outdoors, and you can find all the details on the WMS Blog. Hope to see you there - have a great day!

Follow your Dream

Good morning!

How are you today? Right now I'm enjoying the early morning with a cup of coffee and some blog browsing on the patio with my hubs. Its a beautiful day!

I had so much fun with last week's Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge that I thought I would join in again this week. I forgot how much I love sketch challenges, and really, any extra motivation to keep me crafting at this point is a good thing!

Here is this week's sketch from MM Edna Morrisedie:

And here is my take. I feel like I didn't do much stamping, but this was a fun sketch for layering!

The patterned paper is from Simple Stories and is just the yummiest, summeriest ever. I bought it for my Project Life, but as you can see, it is making its way onto some cards. I used the Shape Studio Round 25 tool from Epiphany Crafts to make the custom epoxy button. Super fun - have my eye on the banner shape!

Just a little of this and a little of that on this card. It was fun to whip up. Will you join us for this week's challenge? You can link up your creation on the WMS Sketch Challenge Blog.

And let's have a giant congratulations to Vickie, for being chosen as our first Mischief Maker Guest Designer!! Vickie is a regular participant in the sketch challenges and always creates such stunning projects. I am looking forward to her time on the team.

Have a great day, sweets!

The Big 100

Well, hello there!

How have you been? I've been suffering a bit from the empty tank syndrome - my mojo is on vacation. But today is a big day - I'm here to play along with the 100th Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge! Wow, 100 already! We are celebrating with prizes and the chance to be a Guest Mischief Maker - now how cool is that?!

Here is our 100th sketch:

One of my all-time favorites, I admit... there are some perks to being the one that works up the sketches! ;)

Since I was feeling a little rusty and looking for some extra help to get started, I turned to this week's Play Date Cafe Color Challenge to give me an extra push.

Here is the card I came up with:

I used the delicious images from French Country on my card. Do you have French Country in your stamping arsenal yet? Oh, it is so good.

I hope you can make some time this week to play along with our 100th sketch challenge! The more the merrier, and I mean that literally! The more players we have, the more prizes we'll be giving out - plus you'll have the chance to join the MM as a Guest Designer! Head to the Sketch Challenge Blog for all the details and to link up your card. And while you're there, be sure to pick up our new badge!

Snazzy, huh? ;)

Have a great day!

WMS November SOAP - Day 2

Morning, all!

Welcome to Day 2 of the November Waltzingmouse SOAP. Back today with more Christmas creations!

Leading things off today is a card inspired by this week's Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge (have you played along?).

I know I've said this before, but nothing brings me more pleasure than pulling out a bunch of WMS sets and combining little bits from each. That, my friends, is versatility!

For this card, I used images from Festive Foliage (one of my most favorite sets ever), 2011 Holiday Ornaments, Gingham & Co., and then topped it off with a big, bold sentiment from Say It Loud - Winter Holiday. Stamping happiness!

For my second project, I made a little shadowbox ornament perfect for the tree, to decorate a present - whatever!

I started by creating and assembling a little box, and then I lined it with patterned paper. All the images I used to create my little Christmas scene are from A Cottage Christmas. There are lots of layers and lots of glitter on this one!

A ribbon is threaded through the top so the shadowbox can be hung up. A bit of batting was added to the front of the shadowbox to resemble snow. This was a fun project, and one that would be great with kiddos! I can think of oodles of other Waltzingmouse sets that would be great for this project.

So that's me for today - as always, thank you so much for stopping by and leaving such lovely comments. I am working on the pattern for the box I shared yesterday, so I will make sure to let you know when that is ready. Thank you for requesting it!

Here are the other Design Team members that will wow you today:

Have a great day!

WMS September Release Day Two

Morning all! Thank you for all of your wonderful comments on yesterday's post (I'll post the chocolate zucchini cake recipe next week!) - you are all so sweet.

Welcome to Day 2 of the September Release previews at Waltzingmouse Stamps. Today we are sharing previews of Say It Loud: Winter Holiday. Oh yes, you heard me right! If you loved the original version (I did) then you will really love this next installment (and I do)!!

The name says it all: fantastic build-your-own phrase options for autumn and winter occasions featuring a gorgeous font and endless possibilities! Let me show you.

Oh, that font! Swoon-worthy, don't you think? Also a perfect way to combine today's Friends of WMS Waltz and this week's sketch challenge!

I combined this set with images from yesterday's A Cottage Home (and another new set we'll be previewing tomorrow) to create a spooky scene for Halloween! Nothing like some well-placed cobwebs (I drew them in myself with a Copic multiliner) to take a nice house to something a little haunted!

And another card for today that I must admit I love. It just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

Here I combined two of the large script font words, but just like Say It Loud, the Winter Holiday version also has loads of complimentary words in a smaller size. You can combine them all for about a million different occasions. Trust me when I say this set goes beyond just Halloween and Christmas! I can't wait to play around more with some phrase building - I've just scratched the surface!

Here is a list of the other DT ladies sharing previews today. I can't wait to check out what amazingness they have been up to!

Don't rush away just yet! Here are the waltz details: if you want to waltz along with us and you haven't yet linked up your project, head to the link list thread in the WMS Forum to link up your creation and view the other participants. There is also a thread for chatting about what you've seen. This month a random waltz participant will be chosen to receive a prize.

Don't forget about the Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge either! Whew, its a busy day! Take care!

Just My Type

Hi there! I am sorry things have been so quiet here. Just taking it a bit easy I guess.

Today is a chilly, rainy day here in Pittsburgh and it was a perfect opportunity to spend a little time in my crafty studio. So I made a card for this week's Play Date Cafe Challenge. Here is this week's color story:

And here is the card I made. I have to send a smile to both Andrea and Chupa for this.. we all were on the same wavelength this week!

I also used this week's Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge, but you'll see more from me in regards to that later this week. :)

The text images are from Text It and PTI's Background Basics: Newsprint. I thought it would be fun to combine different types of type! ;) The typewriter stamp and sentiment are both from MFT's Just My Type set.

And in other crafty news, a Hobby Lobby opened up in Pittsburgh this weekend! It is our first Hobby Lobby store.. I've been to others in other states and I've wished for one here. I didn't waste any time in getting there either - and it was a huge store! I picked up all kinds of goodies... Labels 18 Nesties, Five & Dime patterned paper from October Afternoon, and this! Houndstooth patterned felt!

Isn't it dreamy? I also picked up another piece that looks like tooled leather. I can't wait to go back and see what other goodies I can find.

Thanks for your visit!

Halloween Tag

Hi there! One more day closer to the weekend - and it is a long one here in the US! I'm looking forward to an extra day of sleeping in just a bit. I've noticed it is now still dark in the morning when I get up and I have such a hard time crawling out of bed for work.

Today I thought I'd share my creation for this week's Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge. This week the sketch is from yours truly! I think you might know how much I love to create tags, so I thought a tag would be a fun sketch.
Ooh so fun. Here's my tag for Halloween.

I started with a manila tag from Stampers Anonymous - these are 6-3/4" by 3-1/8", so there's lots of room to create!

I inked my tag with Rusty Hinge and Black Soot Distress Inks, and then stitched a piece of patterned paper (Glowing - Authentique Paper) to it.

I stamped and colored the circle label images from both Cicely and Gracie at Halloween sets. The trick or treat label is from Midnight Feast and the banners are from Bitty Banners.

These are fun little images to color. Next time, I plan to use lots of glitter on them! Don't you think that will look vintage Halloween yummy?

You can find more information about the weekly Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge here on the blog. It is great fun to play along, and we'd love to have you!

Enjoy your day, thank you for stopping by!

Happy Birthday - WMSC61

Hi there. How have you been? I've been taking a little break.. not necessarily voluntary, but sometimes things come up that you have to deal with. We're talking replacing tiles in the bathroom (not voluntarily), replacing cell phones (not voluntarily), and working way too much (also not voluntarily)!

I squeezed in a little cardmaking yesterday, making my sample for this week's Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge. Late is better than never, I say.

This week, sweet Sarah created our sketch. She also created a sketch for a scrapbook page layout! Sarah makes some pretty amazing scrapbook layouts and I can only wish to make something so awesome. So I made a card based on the card sketch:

And here is the card I made, keeping it simple for my brother-in-law's birthday (and since I made it 20 minutes before the guests started to arrive). It was just the kick start I needed.

I used papers from Cosmo Cricket's Get Happy Collection. These are perfect papers for teenage boys. Add a few punches, some baker's twine and a sentiment from Free Spirit Sentiments, and I was home free. Thanks for stopping by today!

Best Wishes

Good morning! Happy weekend!

I'm here today to bring you this week's Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge. One last fabulous sketch from Kelly Schirmer.

I have been invited to a bridal shower this weekend, so I wanted to create a card for the bride. I used You're Lovely and some other sets to create a collage-y sort of card. I envy those of you who can pull this style off! It never quite turns out like I see it in my head... :)

I combined PTI's Fine Linen cardstock with SU!'s Wisteria Wonder, one of the new In Colors. I'm a sucker for new colors, and I really like this dusty purple color.

I cut my fancy topper with a Labels 14 Nestability. This piece is actually connected to the base of the card - I trimmed the rest off and adhered it right to the front. I customized my ribbon by coloring it with a Copic marker.

Thanks for stopping by today - we hope you'll play along with us this week - head to the Waltzingmouse Stamps Sketch Challenge Blog to link up your creation. In addition to the Top Mice awards, a free stamp set is awarded each week to a random player!

Enjoy your Saturday!

Luck this Halloween

Hiya friends! So how did you enjoy the past few days of WMS goodness? Aren't my fellow DT members full of inspiration?

I'm here today to bring you this week's Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge. Kelly Schirmer has brought us another fun sketch.

And here's what I created, a little peek-a-boo card using Cicely at Halloween.

The belly band slips off and the card opens to reveal Cicely in all her cuteness!

I thought I would try coloring Cicely this time. I think she's pretty darn cute! I need to practice using dark colors, but I've got lots of time before Halloween.

Thanks for stopping by today - we hope you'll play along with us this week - head to the Waltzingmouse Stamps Sketch Challenge Blog to link up your creation. In addition to the Top Mice awards, a free stamp set is awarded each week to a random player!

Have a Blast

Morning friends!

Here today with this week's Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge. Today's sketch is brought to you by one of our sweet and talented Mischief Makers, Kelly Schirmer!

Here is the card I made using images from Half Pint Heroes:

The little pocket was the perfect place to tuck a gift card. I measured the gift card and created the envelope myself. I am pretty fond of those cute little silver stars it is stamped with.

We hope you'll play along with us this week - head to the Waltzingmouse Stamps Sketch Challenge Blog to link up your creation. In addition to the Top Mice awards, a free stamp set is awarded each week to a random player!

Birthday Wishes - WMSC57

Happy Saturday!

Here is today's Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge:
Another fun sketch from Julia.

And here is the card I created for this sketch:

The hibiscus flowers are from Free Spirit - Boy. I stamped them on a gradient of cardstock colors, cut them out and then adhered them to my card front. Some are adhered with dimensional tape and others are flat. I also added some coordinating rhinestones to the center of each flower. Is it bad that I had rhinestones to match all those colors? :)

We hope you'll play along with us this week - head to the Waltzingmouse Stamps Sketch Challenge Blog to link up your creation. In addition to the Top Mice awards, a free stamp set is awarded each week to a random player!

Have a great day!
