Celebrate Today

Well, I am *not* celebrating today. It is Monday, and muscles I didn't even know I had are screaming at me. It was a weekend marathon of kayaking, yard work, and too much time in the sun. Needless to say, I'm feeling a little worse for the wear.

Kayaking Friday was excellent, though. The weather was beautiful, I was able to do a little bird watching, and we had a great time. Bill posted a bit more info and a video of a portion of our trip on his blog. You should check it out :)

A shabby card for you today using the Fruit Crate Labels from The Stampsmith.

I fussed with this card for three days until I finally decided I liked it. I kept moving and adding things..

I love the peacock image, and the label (for oranges, I learned) was inked with Pacific VersaColor, a good peacock blue. I have fallen in love with the postage stamp frames that Melissa Philips has been using and until I find my own, I thought I'd use my Slice to try making one. I cut it at the corners to make it large enough for my image and covered it with glitter. There's also some crepe paper ruffles, lace, and rhinestones. The flourish is from the new Embellishments stamp set from PTI. It was a perfect fit for that little corner.

Thanks for your visit today, I'd love for you to say hello!

Fall Blessings

Good morning, my friends!

I am here to bring you another Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge. This is a great sketch - very versatile!

Here is my card for today:

I have been so inspired by all the leaf images showing up (I just *loved* Jennifer Holmes' sketch card from last week) and our recent cooler temperatures. Fall is on the way, and I love it.. my favorite time of the year.

I used images from Blessed By You and Peace and Plenty to create my leafy background paper. These are fantastic sets to have - the images are just beautiful, not to mention the unique sentiments.

I paired my patterned paper with a plaid design from the Cosmo Cricket Matilda collection. The label was cut using my Slice. I inked the edges with Distress Ink for a little aging and smudging.

The sketch challenge will remain open until Thursday, 11:59 EST. You can link up your entry on the Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge Blog. Top Mice will be announced along with the new sketch next Saturday! Be sure to visit the blog and check out what the other DT members and Mischief Makers have created for the sketch challenge!

Thanks for stopping by, have a great weekend!

Ahh, Love

It is Friday! And its a gorgeous day! And after work, we're taking the kayaks out. We are going to head to Moraine State Park, about an hour north of Pittsburgh.

*sigh* I am so glad for the weekend.

Today I would like to share another card with you that I made with the Paris Plate of stamps from The Stampsmith.

Ahh, l'amour..

Another favorite of mine from this set of stamps is this image, of a couple smooching in front of the Notre Dame Catherdral in Paris. Some day I'd like to smooch my hubs there, too!

The image was stamped with chalk ink, and I love the effect - it is soft and subtle, giving it a smudged, time-worn look. I added the sentiment and postmark to the image. I kept the rest of the design monochromatic, except to add a strip of red cardstock. I like how it frames the sentiment.

Ok! I am so glad you could stop by today, and I'll be back tomorrow with my card for the Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge! Have a fantastic day!

Quilted Baby Card

Good morning! I am running a little behind today - I have a tutorial I'd like to share with you along with today's card, so I've been editing my photos. Try as I might to work ahead, it just doesn't happen :)

Today is our DT challenge day for Serendipity Stamps, and today we were challenged to create a baby card.

Serendipity has a great selection of baby themed stamps, which you can find here in their store. I chose the Baby Carriage stamp to use for my card.

I also thought it would be fun to reinforce the baby theme by adding some quilted fabric to my card front, like a baby blanket, you know?

I took some step-by-step photos in case you would like to give it a try. It was easy, and I love the look and texture that it adds!

So here's what you'll need to do:

Step 1: Gather your materials. I used two pieces of fabric, each approximately 4-1/2 by 5-1/2 inches; a piece of cardstock measuring 3-1/2 by 4-1/2 inches, and some quilt batting.

Step 2: Sandwich the cardstock between the two pieces of fabric and stitch along three sides. Stuff the quilt batting into the open side.

Step 3: Stitch up the fourth side. Mark where you want to stitch the quilted pattern. I wanted to stitch a diagonal pattern, so I marked the centers of each of my sides with straight pins.

Step 4: Begin stitching your pattern, starting with opposite corners (top left to bottom right, etc). This creates a big 'X' design.

Step 5: Complete the stitching. I created the diamond quilted pattern by stitching from the center of each side to the center of the adjacent side.

Step 6: Use pinking shears to trim the excess material from the outer edges. Voila! You have just created a cute little quilted fabric piece to add to your card. Because you have a piece of cardstock in there, too, it helps to keep the fabric flat and makes it easy to adhere it to your card base. I just used Scor-Tape to add it right to the card front.

The baby carriage image was colored with Copics and then cut out. Again, I used Scor-Tape to adhere it to the fabric. I stamped the sentiment, tucked it behind the baby carriage and then finished it off with a stick pin (that has been in my stash for ages). Fun! I hope you enjoyed that little tutorial and I also hope you give this little technique a try!

Please be sure to visit the other Design Team members to see their take on the challenge!

Tea Cup Flowers

Taking a step back from things to post today. Life is overwhelming me right now, but my best advice to myself during times like these is just to keep going.

This past Sunday we threw my Dad (who doesn't like birthdays and isn't keen on surprises) a surprise birthday party. He turns the big 6-0 tomorrow and we wanted to do something special for him (of course, nothing could be more special than getting me as a present 31 years ago! Ha! ;). My mom hired a blues duo, Izzy & Chris, to play for my Dad. It was an intimate set, just about fifteen close friends and family in the backyard for good food and music. It all worked out well, and we all had a great time.

On to today's card..

A little shabby tea cup full of pansies using Afternoon Tea Sentiments. I took some inspiration from the card I made for WMSC4. Sometimes it helps to recycle ideas.

That's it for me - I hope you have a great day!

Fresh Plucked...

Hi there! Ready for the weekend?

I am here to bring you another Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge.

Today, we're going with a circle card - these are always fun to make, right?

Here is today's sketch:

And here is my card.. its kind of gross, so be warned ;)

Ewww! Ha! Oh, I love Halloween.

The Eyeballs label text is from Wanda's Pantry. (I mean, if there is a label for eyeballs then I need to use it and make some eyeballs, right?)

The 'eyeballs' were created using the flower from Rescue Remedies. Yes, the flower that I love almost more than anything. I bet you'll never 'look' at it quite the same way again! *snort*

The circular card base and decorative label were cut using my Slice. There is a layer of acetate sewn to the front of the card and then the eyeballs are tucked inside. Like a jar. That you'd keep eyeballs in. Halloween really brings out the best in me.

Before you take off, the Random Number Generator thingy picked comment #4 to win my blog candy. That's you, Genevieve!! Email me your address and I'll pop your issues of Paper Crafts Magazine in the mail.

Have a great day!

PS - Kayaking last night was awesome!

Golden Leaves

Is anyone else super excited that it is Friday?

We've got BIG plans this weekend, but I need to stay hush-hush about it now!

Today, I would like to share a card that I made for Prickley Pear using their new Fall & Halloween ATC Transparencies.

I backed the Solid Leaf ATC with adhesive and covered it with glitter. The glitter is from P K Glitz and is called Golden Cadillac. I stitched the transparency to a mat of cream cardstock and inked the edges.

The patterned paper is from October Afternoon's The Thrift Shop. I have to say I really like this color combination. I've always liked black and cream together, but throw in a sagey green and it feels so comfy and perfect for fall.

So the other night Bill and I did something that we've talked about doing for years - we went out and bought kayaks! We found them for a reasonable price and decided that we should do something fun for ourselves. We are going to take them out tonight for the first time after work. I can't wait! And with the weather (hopefully) heading in a cooler direction, it will be wonderful to be out on the water!

Today is your last day to leave a comment for my blog candy. I'll pick a winner tonight and announce it tomorrow along with the new WMS Sketch Challenge.

Enjoy your Friday!

Papertrey Princesses Challenge

Good morning!

Today it is my turn to host another Papertrey Princesses challenge. I thought we could try something that always seems like a challenge to me: a simple, one-layer card. Here is the card that I made.

Emphasis on simple! I also have to admit, this is my first time using Year of Flowers: Lily of the Valley. In keeping with the challenge theme, I also kept my coloring very simple, just using three different colored Copics and a glitter pen. Overall, I like the result but I have the urge to add more. I did go in and add a pattern stamped with Background Basics: Diamonds just to break up all that white space.

Ladies, I hope you enjoy the challenge and I can't wait to see what you create. I know I've been a terrible challenge participator, but I do have a notebook full of challenges to finish!

Have a great day!

Thinking of You, Friend

Hi there! How about the WMS Waltz yesterday? So much inspiration - you ladies continue to amaze me!

This past weekend was one of my favorite fleatiques in the Pittsburgh area. It was a rainy morning and the vendors were sparse, but there is one lady that comes regularly that brings a box of old photos. She tells me they are from her grandmother's old albums and because she doesn't know any of the people she has no problem selling them! She has had continual requests for these photos, so each month there's something a little different. I love looking through them, and I found a few I wanted to incorporate into my creations - hey, I don't need to know the people to use them on my cards! ;)

I love these bathing beauties - see the date scribbled on the side... 1926!

Love, love, love.

I used more elements from my Handmade Die-Cut Cardstock embellishments. The background was stamped with the fancy border stamp from Very Vintage Christmas. I cut some vintage book print with a scallop edge die and added some other bits and pieces.

I can't wait to send this one off! It makes me giggle - oh, those bathing suits!

Don't forget about my blog candy up for grabs. Details are in this post.

Have a fantastic day!

August Blog Waltz

Good morning, waltzers! Welcome to the August Friends of WMS Blog Waltz.

If you want to waltz along with us and you haven't yet linked up your project, head to this thread in the WMS Forum to link up your creation and view the other participants. There is also a thread for chatting about what you've seen and participating in our little contest! This month the contest is to guess the subject of one of the stamp sets being released in September. The participating DT members each have a one-word clue on their blogs. Once you see all of them, you should be able to guess! A correct guess could win you a stamp set of your choice!

On to my card!

You know that I love Halloween, but there's nothing better to me than vintage Halloween! Needless to say, that's where my mind went for our vintage/shabby chic challenge.

I used stamps from Midnight Feast and patterned paper from My Mind's Eye. I glittered up a Maya Road Chipboard frame, and tied a knot in some big, fat grosgrain ribbon. What do you think?

Now before you leave, I have a little blog candy to give away. I have one copy each of the July/August and September/October issues of Paper Crafts Magazine. The Sept/Oct issue is the newest - hot off the press! Our own Carly Robertson has four cards featured in this issue! On Friday I will randomly choose a winner from the comments on this post to receive both issues!

Have fun waltzing! Don't forget to head back to the WMS Forum to chat and join the contest.

Thanks for stopping by! Did you get the clue?

Dream Big and Laugh Hard

Good morning sweeties. The weekends just fly by too fast and here we are back at Monday again.

I have another card to share with you today using some pre-printed embellishments. These are from the Handmade Die-Cut Cardstock collection from K&Company. I found these at my local Michaels, and I have loved creating with them!

I have really been enjoying the ability to create a card in just a few minutes. Don't get me wrong - I will never give up the meticulous background pattern-stamping or fussy cutting that I love, but sometimes I only have 20 minutes, you know?

The only bit of stamping I did was to stamp one of the images from Fancy Flourishes onto the large label. The rest of the card was created with elements from the embellishments collection. These are particularly fun because they are double-sided: one side is a plain image and the other side is the same image only glammed up - glittered or foiled. Love them!

Be happy today! As always, thank you for your visit and for taking the time to leave a comment!

Love Potion

Hi there! How are you doing today?

It is Saturday, so I am here to bring you another Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge.

We're up to WMSC10 already, and today's sketch is a very CAS one - I admit it was a bit open-ended for me.. I sat for a long time wondering what to do. Here is the sketch:

And here is my card:

A little lovey-dovey with Wanda's Pantry. This card makes me think very much of the Red Queen from Alice in Wonderland.

The label was stamped in Cherry Cobbler - a delicious new color from Stampin' Up! I colored in the flourishes with a Sand Spica Glitter pen. The corner treatments are hearts that were trimmed down to fit. I also used one of the tags from Very Vintage Labels No. 4 on either side of my label. The background patterned paper was made using the arrow from Sweethearts.

A few annoucements before you go..

Happily Ever After

Hi! The weekend is almost here, huh?

Today I have another fun collagey type card for you. These are so fun to make!

My starting point was the cute little bird card, which is from the October Afternoon Fly a Kite Wild Cards (I purchased mine from StarLitStudio). Of course I loved the whimsical bird image and thought they looked like quite a happy birdy couple! The background patterned papers are from the Fly a Kite Collection. The doily was spritzed with my mix of Wild Honey Distress Reinker and Perfect Gold Perfect Pearls. Its the same mix I used for this Halloween card.

The sentiment is from Favor It Weddings, stamped onto the smallest tag from Tags Trio, and topped with a button from my vintage jar.

I really love playing with these pre-printed images! It is fun to grab a bunch of supplies and see what happens.

Hope you are having a fantastic week, thank you for visiting!

Dropping You a Line

Good morning!

I am here today with another challenge from Serendipity Stamps!

Today's challenge was to create a reading or writing-themed card. I used stamps from the Postoid Cling Set to create my card. Alluding to sending a letter, I'm covering the reading and writing theme! ;)

The little postoids were colored with Copic markers. I cut each of them out and then created the postage stamp look by using a hole punch to punch around the border. I love these images - the line drawings are so versatile. It gives me a happy 'from my mailbox to yours' type of feeling.

Although it is a little hard to tell, the background is stamped with the Postcard header and Cheryl's Postcards stamp to help tie everything together. The sentiment is also part of the Postoid Cling Set. I stitched around the outside and then tied some baker's twine and a cool vintage wood button around the front. As a sidenote, if you ever get to an antique flea market and find some buttons - don't hesitate to buy them! I have found so much enjoyment from my big ol' jar of vintage buttons. :)

I am so glad you could stop by today, I really appreciate it. Please be sure to visit the other Design Team members to see their take on the challenge!

The Kettle Is On

Good morning, my dears!

How are you? I am doing well - we enjoyed a lovely weekend with gorgeous weather. I hope you had a great one, too.

I did a little face-lifting here at my little blog over the weekend. I bet you can tell where my thoughts are turning. It is decidedly fallish! I wanted to increase the width to allow for larger photos, and I thought it would be fun to change some other details, too. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Today's card is a little cutie featuring some of my current favorites. A perfect card for a friend.

I used elements from the Afternoon Tea and Afternoon Tea Sentiments sets from Waltzingmouse. The patterned paper is from The Thrift Shop collection from October Afternoon - it was my starting point and I built the colors around it. Don't you love the combo of the blue and yellow?

I added some other little details - a row of pearls and little popped up teabags - to finish it off.

I will be back tomorrow with this week's Serendipity Design Team challenge. Have a great day, and thank you for stopping by!

Good morning!

I have another inspiring Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge to share with you today.

Here is today's sketch:

And here is my card:

Are you tired of seeing these flowers yet? I hope not - because I love 'em! I think they are fan.tas.tic.

My polka dot background is from Off Beat Backgrounds and was stamped with Antique Linen Distress Ink. The flowers (which I'm sure you know by now!) are from Rescue Remedies. Don't they look spectacular in the fall colors? I think this card has a permanent spot on my desk :)

The sketch challenge will remain open until Thursday, 11:59 EST. You can link up your entry on the Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge Blog. Celebrate Every Day

Yay! Its Friday!

Are you doing anything fun this weekend? The weather here in Pittsburgh is supposed to be gorgeous, so Bill and I are going to try and spend as much of it outside as we can. We are talking about heading up north for a photography expedition :)

Today's card is one of those that flowed easily last weekend. I am a big admirer of Melissa Philips' and Sarah Martina's styles. I just love the layers, the shabby texture, and the free-flowing-ness of their creations. Inspired by them, I embraced it and made it my own :)

Have I told you about my bird obsession? Yes, I have one. I love to feed them and watch them in the backyard and now I find myself being drawn to delicious vintage images. This tag is from 7Gypsies (purchased at StarLitStudio) and is a 97% Complete tag. This particular one is from the Victoria line, but they have many others. Really fun! I added the stitching, buttons, and stamped the sentiment - my 3% ;).

Other bits and pieces from my collection were added to finish it off. *Sigh* this card makes me happy!

I will be back tomorrow with this week's Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge. Speaking of the sketch challenges, have you seen the new announcement? We've added seven exceptionally talented ladies to the WMS Sketch Challenge Design Team! Each week these ladies will be inspiring you with their contributions to the sketch challenges. Please make sure to welcome them to the group! Have a great day!

Miss Abigail

Hi!

Today I wanted to share a little home decor I made for my good friend Dina's new daughter Abigail. I boxed up some little outfits, a smocked dress (hand-made special by my Momma), and this little frame.

The design is reminiscent of this card that I made for WMSC5. I loved the flower clusters and fresh color combination.

I used Victorian Alphabet to spell Abi's name, and framed it with one of the images from Very Vintage Labels No. 10. I should really get these Nesties.. but cutting the labels out by hand is easy, too!

The flowers are from Rescue Remedies. There is something about them that I just love, and to me, they beg to be layered like this. I used a combination of dimensional tape and regualar paper adhesive to create the flower clusters. The large flowers have coordinating rhinestone centers.

The frame is a 4" by 6" photo frame from JoAnn's - I cut my cardstock to size and removed the glass.

Enjoy! Have a great day!

Bonjour!

Good morning, my friends. How was your weekend? I was very productive - the cards were coming easily, I buzzed through the household chores, and I boxed up and sent off some pub submissions (ooh!).

I've been having fun playing around, letting ideas take me where they will.. I often come up with things when I'm laying in bed waiting for Bill to wake up. :)

Just for fun..

These stamps are from the Paris plate, the second plate of stamps that I bought from The Stampsmith (remember the Pears card from a few weeks back?).

This plate features classic landmarks of Paris as well as some vintage poster images and accompanying sentiments. Love - or should I say L'amour!

A fun color combination, too! The purple dotted cardstock was ruffled and stitched, and then I covered almost all of it up! Oh well :) Another hard-to-see detail is the stamped sheet music background.

This little cutie is happily sitting on my desk - I love to incorporate my cards into my room decor ;)

Thank you for stopping by, I hope you have a great day!
